“Alex Cerveniak has either discovered the secret of stretching time, or he doesn’t sleep. No mortal man could possibly do as much, nor do it as well day after day as Alex does. He is always fishing, he is always tying, and he writes like a maniac; a brilliant maniac. Somehow he manages to attend classes to advance his education, attend to family duties, and work. And I can’t mention the title of a book on fly fishing or tying that he hasn’t already read.
Although I am envious of the amount of time he spends on the water, it is his writing that I most admire: he grabs you in his first paragraph, his first sentence — and keeps you reading. Any day now I expect to see an expose in Hatches Magazine that Alex’s mother had triplets, and ala George Foreman, named them all Alex.”
-Bob Mead, writer and fly tying pioneer
“That is some of the finest writing I’ve read in a long time, here, or anywhere else. It transcended the “outdoors” niche without being one of those nauseating writing-about-life-through-flyfishing pieces of crap so often fawned over by those with neither an engaging life nor outdoors experience. You have a voice that should be heard more broadly than just flyfishers.”
- John B., reader from Madison, WI.
“I have had the pleasure of working with Alex on a variety of projects over the past year. He is extremely passionate about everything he gets involved with and he never gives less than 100 percent effort in everything that he does. Not only does he exceed expectations on whatever he is asked to do, he also spends considerable time thinking of new ideas and ways to be more of an asset.”
-Will Mullis, editor of Hatches Magazine.
“This is hands down the best trip report I’ve ever read…I wish that I’d had that type of insight at 29. Hell, I wish I had that type of insight now.”
-Jeff D., reader from San Antonio, TX.
“Alex is always a must read because, whether you agree with him or not, he says everything with clarity and conviction and does not back down from any blowback. His posts are beyond the typical cliche ridden fly fishing prose. He’s well ahead of the class and always a quality read.”
- Pete McDonald, forthcoming author and writer of the fly fishing blog, Fishing Jones.
“The emotion that you write with is a gift friend. Not everyone has it and you need to consider developing it. Seriously. You are a writer.”
- Brad Bohen, writer and fly fishing guide at Musky Country Outfitters.
“Alex’s essays reflect a man largely pulling off the high wire act of thoughtful, intelligent commentary coupled with the ability to proffer a staunch opinion in such a way that one feels the need to defend his views even when one disagrees. I can think of no higher compliment for a writer.”
- Ryan Auclair, writer and Buster Wants To Fish contributor.
After 2 years of gathering random pictures taken by our attendees at our annual celebration and conservation fund raiser, we decided to hire Alex as our official photographer. He worked tirelessly to bring us a visual record of our third annual gathering. After a long day of shooting the many events and celebrity presentations, including “before” pictures taken at 5am of the lot, plus cleanup at 4pm, he had all of the photos edited and delivered to us on a DVD within 3 days. His professionalism was greatly appreciated and his eye for a great photo was exactly what we envisioned when we were looking for a photographer.
Thanks Alex!Geoffrey Schaake
